Burton Dickerson

"Art does not need the support of dialogue."

Burton Dickerson was born in Detroit in 1925.
He has been painting for over 60 years and instructed
painting and drawing for 17 years at Central Michigan
University. He retired from teaching art at CMU in 1982
as a full Professor of Painting and Drawing in order that
he could spend more time painting. He has a Bachelor of
Science degree from Eastern Michigan University, a Master
of Arts from the University of Michigan, and a Master of
Fine Arts from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He is the
recipient of numerous awards for his work including firsts in
painting at the Flint Institute of Art Michigan Show and
the Grand Rapids Michigan Show. The Abstract Expressionist
paintings of Burton Dickerson are part of eleven major
collections in the United States.
